Software abstractions for mobile RFID-enabled applications

چکیده
Our everyday environments may soon be pervaded with radio frequency identification (RFID) tags integrated in physical objects. These RFID tags can store a digital representation of the physical object and transmit it wirelessly to pervasive, context-aware applications running on mobile devices. However, communicating with RFID tags is prone to many failures inherent to the technology. This hinders the development of such applications, as traditional programming models require the programmer to deal with the RFID hardware characteristics manually. On the other hand, traditional RFID middleware focuses on limited scenarios in an enterprise context and not on general ubiquitous computing scenarios. In this paper, we extend the ambientoriented programming paradigm to program RFID applications, by considering RFID tags as intermittently connected mutable proxy objects hosted on mobile distributed computing devices, and detail our prototype implementation. MORENA: A Middleware for Programming NFC-Enabled Android Applications as Distributed Object-Oriented Programs
NFC is a wireless technology that allows software to interact with RFID tags and that is increasingly integrated into smartphones and other mobile devices. In this paper, we present MORENA: a middleware that treats NFC-enabled programs as distributed object-oriented programs in which RFID tags are represented as intermittently connected remote objects. We draw inspiration from the ambient-orien...
متن کاملA Framework for Supporting RFID-enabled Business Processes Automation
Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an established technology and has the potential, in a variety of applications, to significantly reduce cost and improve performance. As RFID-enabled applications will fulfill similar tasks across a range of processes adapted to use the data gained from RFID tags, they can be considered as software products derived from a common infrastructure and assets ...
متن کاملeCloudRFID - A mobile software framework architecture for pervasive RFID-based applications
In the last few years, RFID technology has become a stimulating and rapidly expanding area of research and development. The technology’s ability to precisely identify objects at low cost and without line of sight creates new and emerging opportunities for RFID applications that could become an integral part of our daily lives. Mobile RFID services for the Internet of Things can be created using...
متن کاملA Case for RFID-based Mobile Sensor Data Gathering in Indoor Environments
We propose the use of RFID in sensing applications enabled by passive or semi-passive tags and mobile devices equipped with readers. We experimentally investigate the feasibility of such RFID-based mobile sensor data gathering applications, focusing on UHF RFID devices and indoor scenarios. We examine the impact of various factors, including reader mobility, antenna types and orientation, multi...
متن کاملSecuring a Smart Anti-counterfeit Web Application
The use of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology can be employed for automating and streamlining safe and accurate brand identification (ID) uniquely in real-time to protect consumers from counterfeited products. We outline a Web-based Anticounterfeit RFID System (WARS) to combat counterfeit branding. By placing brand tags (RFID tags) on brands at the point of manufacture, vendors an...
